JJ FSX: If you are getting lowered frame rates in bad weather, try reducing the number of cloud layers a bit from default.

Obviously no weather stations out there.ĪSN is doing a lot of interesting things besides displaying something matching the current METAR. Or fly up a coast and look out over the water and see clouds in the distance, which matched the real world if you checked a weather map. One thing that still amazes me is that you can be flying somewhere far from the nearest weather station and see patches of ground fog in appropriate places. If you tune 122.0 on a radio it will play the ATIS weather information from the nearest weather station. You could also display a weather map which was incredibly useful for flight planning and get the weather, both METAR and in plain text, from any weather station.

Full sanity checks and weather smoothing and old data would be interpolated to match current conditions. I bought an early version of Active Sky which improved greatly on Jeppesen. There did not appear to be any kind of sanity checking or weather smoothing being done. Then a few minutes later it would jump back. You would get instantaneous wind shifts and the barometer could jump by a full inch spinning your altimeter around by 1000 feet. Jeppesen weather was actually pretty bad. Good enough for me and free was a very good price. You can also load flight plans into it and get the current weather conditions at waypoints, destination etc.Īs far as the cloud "textures", I found some free (I think some from Steve's DX10 freeware stuff, i can't remember off the top of my head because I played around with several before I settled and it was a long time ago) The ones I ended up with look very close to the REX soft cloud textures and work well with ASN. And/or you can use "historical" weather to re-create a certain day in the past, or say go fly in a historical hurricane. It's that easy but also can get quite detailed if you wan't to create your own scenerios with multiple layers etc. The only thing is that when in bad weather it takes a big hit on my framerate (i'll lose like 5 fps in bad weather), but that is to be expected and would be true of any others I think. I got it on sale cheap I think it was $11.00. Its simple and it really makes a difference. The only tweak I have done to it is turn off its startup sound (lightning), that was obnoxious. But then again I don't have any others so I guess i would not know if it really is, except for most reviews I read before purchasing agreed at the time. I just start it and minimize it then start FSX and fly. IMO ASN is the best weather add-on, I highly recommend it. I use ASN (Active Sky Next) anyway so I'm good but I would like to know whats going on. With real world its cloudy/raining at KPDX while in reality and with ASN it is clear and no rain. Is there supposedly something wrong with it? Has there been some sort of announcement of political issues with Jeppeson? If so what are we getting when we choose real-world weather now?ĭough, I just double checked and it doesn't match with what ASN comes up with. It goes out to Jeppessen and gets the current weather just fine. Thank you and we apologize for the inconvenience.I just checked mine and it appears to be working fine. If any problems continue, we will be monitoring and ready to resolve ASAP.

With the recent HiFi systems update at 05Z on March 10, we believe we have finally resolved this transient corruption issue. Our efforts to resolve this have been aimed at identifying and implementing fail-safe data handling for such data issues. During these brief outages, our systems were unable to handle the erroneous data. I'd like to iterate that this problem is due to unexpected, undocumented and problematic formatting and syntax issues coming sometimes in specific corrupted data components received from the network, or in some cases, directly from certain weather stations. The program's installer file is generally known as ASNext.exe.

These issues occurred in the middle of a very significant system upgrade we've been working on for months, further complicating things. 21938 was available to download from the developer's website when we last checked. Our team has been working tirelessly non-stop to address this new problem presented by our data sources which has been very complex and intermittent making it difficult to identify, resolve, and confirm resolution. We understand the frustration that this issue has been causing. Fortunately, we were able to further identify additional problematic source data formatting issues leading to corruption and have implemented further changes to prevent this. We unfortunately experienced another event at 00Z March 11 which lasted approximately 45 minutes.
